Athena Cassette Boxes

The Athena Large Electric Roof lantern blind has a minimalistic look with just one easy-to-clean cassette box at the motor end. Inside the aluminium powder-coated cassette box,  the engineering brilliance of the Athena Electric Roof lantern blind is hidden away from dust, flies and view allowing it to blend into your lantern’s upstand. (White is standard but any RAL colour can be offered)

At one end of your Athena is a 146mm wide by 126mm high cassette headbox. This conceals the 85mm motor tube and has sufficient room for up to 4.5m of fabric to wrap around it.   Unlike pleated blind systems that concertina at one end gathering dust, your chosen Athena fabric is always protected when not in use. The Athena electric roof blind is unique in the way that it creates tension and operates. Unlike other systems, the torsion spring is used to charge the Athena roof blind and put tension into the cables & fabric.  These steel cables maintain the overall tension in the fabric in both directions of operation. The motor is then used solely to either deploy or retract the blind and does not work against the pull of the torsion spring.

This method of operation means that the motor is not carrying out additional work as it is not pulling against the spring. This system allows for over 30kg of tension to be constantly applied to the fabric.   This roof lantern blind design avoids the need for a symmetrical box at the other end. The result is a fantastic fabric finish without visible cords for wider and longer lanterns which would not be achieved with smaller roof blind systems.

Athena Side Channels

The Athena electric roof lantern blind has two side channels 54mm wide that have an adjustable wall plate for non-parallel reveals.  This allows for some variation in your roof lantern upstand sizing. They play an integral part in the ‘no visible wires’ system as the steel cables are hidden inside.  The zipper ribbon technology is welded to the edges of your chosen blind fabric creating a very strong join. The zipper ribbon is securely held and prevented from being blown out of the channels. It allows the blind to run freely and quietly along these channels whilst returning the fabric squarely onto the motor tube every time it is used. 

Due to the engineered design of the Athena roof blind’s side channels, it doesn’t usually require any shelving. (Unless your lantern’s upstand is very much out of square). 

Athena Hem Bar & Sealant Strip

The Athena heavy-duty 63mm hem bar has been designed to perform and not deflect. Lesser hem bars used at this size would risk bowing under their weight, bending under the forces or simply being ripped from the fabric. Its rigidity contributes to the final cloth finish.

The White or Black Sealant Strip on the hem bar creates a seal between the hem bar and the lanterns upstand when your blind is closed. White is the standard but sometimes black is used when maximising room darkening. The image is to show the hem bar, the headbox casing is not in this picture, this is not the finished look of the headbox.

Athena SOMFY Motors

Not all SOMFY motors are equal and can be used in our specialised roof blinds. Due to the barrel assembly system of the Athena electric roof blind, all the tension on the fabric is created in the steel cables from the powerful spring.  This allows Athena’s Somfy motor to be very quiet as its only purpose is to pull the hem bar from one end of the roof lantern to the other.

The Athena Electric Roof Lantern blind uses a SOMFY Radio Transmitted Signal (RTS) motor as standard. This allows you to control your blind using a remote-control handset or remote-control wall switch. The Athena SOMFY RTS motor is compatible with the SOMFY Tahoma Switch which offers a simple gateway to smart living.

Alternatively, hardwired SOMFY motors can be used on request which will allow compatibility with existing home automation systems such as Lightwave, Control-4 & Luxone

This screen fabric range offers great heat gain rejection at the lighter colours with the Linen & White Pearl Grey still offering good glare control.

Touch Control (Radio Technology RTS)

The standard Somfy motors for the large Athena electric roof blinds use radio technology.  This enables you to have a choice between a remote handset or a wireless wall switch included in your investment

A simple press of a button on your chosen remote control device sends out a radio wave signal to operate your roof lantern blind.  You don’t even need to point the handset at your roof blind.  The radio waves are omnidirectional and operate to a range of over 15 metres in any direction.  

Somfy radio technology utilizes a rolling code with 16 million combinations to ensure that RTS communication is both safe and secure.    This ensures that your controls will not interfere with other radio-controlled products in your home or adjoining neighbours.  

Somfy Tahoma Switch - Timers, Sensors & Voice Control

The Somfy Tahoma Switch puts you in control of your Athena electric roof lantern blind whether you are home or not.   With the ability to control your Athena roof blind from anywhere in the world through the Tahoma App on your smartphone or tablet.

The Somfy Tahoma offers your roof lantern blind intelligence so that you get the very most from your investment.   Let Tahoma take control while you and your family focus on enjoying life.

Tahoma’s Timer settings can automatically open and close your roof blind at pre-set times.   Natural light in the morning for breakfast but closed in the evening for cosy family time.  

In addition, the Sunis IO Sensor can talk to your Tahoma.  If there is too much direct light passing your lantern your roof blind fabric will close.  This intelligence ensures that when you get home your living space has been kept cool from the summer heat without you having to give it a second thought.

The Warranty

Your investment in WindowTreat's superior electric roof blind is protected by a 5-year 'peace of mind' warranty.

This covers all aspects of the roof blind system to function correctly. Any failure of the motor, fabric stitching, zip teeth or blind components will be rectified free of charge during the 5 years after the installation.

The fabrics are UV stable, anti-microbial and flame retardant. Minor variations in fabric colour may occur over time but are considered standard wear and tear.

Any damage caused by accidents, misuse or unauthorised modifications to the roof blind system and fabric is not covered by this warranty. Example being - 

• Any alterations to the blind other than by WindowTreat
• Obstructions in the way of the blind when in use
• Paint on the blind system when decorating
• Stains of the cloth
• Damage to the remote handset from 'misuse'
