THE WINDOW TREATMENT SPECIALISTS

Glass Building, Ipswich

Commercial

Built between 1970 and 1975 for a Fortune 500 insurance company this building was one of the first designed by Norman & Foster Associates.  It is now a landmark in the development of high tech architectural style.   Designed to house 1300 employees over three floors, the building boasts an exterior dark smoked curved curtain wall glazing.

However, over the years the tempered glazing (toughened) has been victim to spontaneous glass breakage.

WindowTreat won a tender to replace the existing aged safety film.   The safety film protects employees, visitors and the public from falling breaking glass by holding the fragments together until the glass can be replaced.

WindowTreat took a scientific approach with modeling to show how a safety product could be combined with energy saving properties.   We were able to show how savings of over £20,000/year in energy (air-conditioning & heating costs) would pay for their safety solution over time.   Once we demonstrated how the newly proposed product would not change the appearance of the listed building, the solution was given English Heritage acceptance.

Our project management and installation teams ensured the proposed product was installed to over 5000sq.m. of curtain walling.  We are very proud that we were able to assist our clients through the complicated decision process so that they could get the best in safety and energy savings whilst reducing their carbon footprint.
